Frozen Juanita’s (Whiskey Slush)

Frozen Juanita’s (Whiskey Slush)….Whiskey’s answer to the Frozen Margarita!  What is more refreshing than a frozen cocktail on a hot steamy summer day….am I right?   But who really wants to get the blender out to make pitchers of frozen drinks? These are the perfect make-ahead frozen cocktails.  You can make them during the week, and they are good to go for the weekend.

It’s really simple! All you have to do is add all of the ingredients to a pitcher, stir, put it in the freezer, stir, and wait.

I remember buying those buckets of Margarita mix that you could just add a bottle of tequila to and then BAM! The next day you’d have frozen Margaritas.   This is the same idea, only it’s whiskey…. I’m calling it a Frozen Juanita instead of a Margarita. But if Margarita’s are your drink of choice just swap the whiskey for tequila and you’ve got a frozen Margarita!  Totally delicious either way you go!

This recipe came from my friend Lynn.  It was actually her grandmother’s recipe…. now that’s a family recipe to hang on to!   The original recipe called for frozen lemonade instead of frozen limeade.  Pretty much a frozen Whiskey Sour.  Lynn brought them to my house for a party and they were so mouth-watering, delicious and refreshing!

While they are still super frozen you can eat them with a spoon. But, after just a few minutes, they start to melt a little and you can slurp them up right up with a straw like a Dairy Queen Misty Slush!  Frozen Juanita’s (Whiskey Slush) are an awesome summer cocktail. So tasty, they are even great at any time of the year! I hope you’ll give them a try and enjoy them as much as we do during a hot summer day!

Frozen Juanita’s – Whiskey Slush

Ingredients

  • 12 oz frozen limeade (1 can)
  • 6 oz frozen orange juice
  • 3 – 12 oz cans full of water
  • 1 – 12 oz can full of whiskey
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • Lime for garnish

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a pitcher or other container that can be frozen. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and put in the freezer for 24 hours. Stir after about 10-12 hours. By this time the mixture will be beginning to get slushy but some of the alcohol with sink to the bottom so stirring it will help redistribute it throughout. After 24 hours scoop out using an ice-cream scooper into your favorite glass and garnish with a lime wheel, if desired.
